About

The Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), established in 2005, is Spain’s national supercomputing facility. It specializes in high-performance computing (HPC) and conducts world-class research in computer science, life sciences, earth sciences, and engineering. Located in Barcelona, BSC is home to MareNostrum, one of Europe’s most powerful supercomputers. BSC-CNS manages the Spanish Supercomputing Network (RES) and was a founding and top-tier member of the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe (PRACE). It currently serves as a hosting entity of EuroHPC JU, the European initiative responsible for large-scale investments and coordination of HPC infrastructure across the continent. The center plays a central role in advancing scientific discovery through cutting-edge computational infrastructure and contributes to numerous European and international research initiatives—particularly in bioinformatics and computational genomics. BSC actively collaborates with other leading supercomputing centers to drive innovation and research excellence in HPC across Europe.
