About

Université Paris Cité (UPCité) was founded in 2019 through the merger of Paris-Descartes and Paris-Diderot universities. It stands out for its scale: 68,000 students, 2,700 staff, and more than 4,773 teachers-researchers (enseignants-chercheurs) and researchers over 103 research units. UPCité is a capital-city, omnidisciplinary, research-intensive university structured around three Faculties (Health, Science, Society & Humanities), the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris (IPGP – component institution) and Institut Pasteur (partner research organisation). It has key partnerships with the latter and national research organisations such as CNRS, Inserm and Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris.​ In terms of ranking, UPCité is 60th (world) and 4th (national) at the Shanghai ranking in 2024, 29th (world) and 2rd (national) at the CWUR 2025 ranking, 37th (world) and 1st (national) for publication impact (CWTS ranking, 2024), 5th (world) and 1st (national) at the Clarivate Innovation Ranking 2025.
