About

Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa) is the largest and most prestigious university in Portugal, being the best positioned in the Shangai International Ranking, and is one of Europe’s leading universities. Heir to a university tradition that spans over seven centuries, ULisboa acquired its status in July 2013 following the merger of the former Universidade Técnica de Lisboa and Universidade de Lisboa. ULisboa brings together various areas of knowledge and has a privileged position in facilitating the contemporary evolution of science, technology, arts and humanities. The quality of teaching, research, innovation and culture of ULisboa is attracting an ever-increasing amount of talent from around the world. ULisboa is committed to strengthening its capacity to act and exercise influence in international strategic areas, especially by developing further partnerships with Brazil, China and the Community of Portuguese-speaking countries. FML is the largest Portuguese medical school, one of the 18 higher education institutions integrated with the University of Lisbon. The origin of the Faculty of Medicine ULisboa (FML) can be traced back to the Royal Medical-Surgical School of Lisbon, created in 1825 in the Campo de Sant’Ana building, transferred, in 1956, to the then-new Santa Maria Hospital campus, where two new facilities for teaching, research and support services were constructed in 2004 and 2019. With GIMM and the Unidade Local de Saúde de Santa Maria (ULS Santa Maria), FML is part of the first academic clinical centre created in Portugal, the Lisbon Academic Medical Centre (CAML), founded in 2009.
